Meaning “Smokey River” in Maori, OPAWA PINOT NOIR is named after the vineyard in which the Nautilus Winery is situated. The Opawa River formed the gravel soils that make up the Marlborough Winegrowing heartland which includes the Nautilus Opawa Vineyard, and lead to the ripe, juicy structure of this wine. Building on Nautilus’ reputation as one of the region’s most respected producers of Pinot Noir, and its specialised Pinot Noir winemaking facility, Opawa meets a demand for a top quality, mid price pinot. |

Meet the Opawa Winemaker:
Brett Bermingham
|
|
| |
Brett Bermingham grew up in the Marlborough Region and started his career in the wine industry at Highfield. He then worked for several years at Cloudy Bay learning from experienced winemakers such as James Healy and Kevin Judd. A period overseas, working at a contract winemaking facility in Victoria followed before he headed home to work at Rapaura Vintners where Nautilus was a shareholder at the time. Brett specialised in the Nautilus Pinot, working in the dedicated Pinot facility until he joined Nautilus in 2006. He is generally to be found wandering through the Pinot Winery with a barrel thief in his hand and a smile on his face.
